Stuttgart, Germany – Porsche Motorsport is revving up for an exhilarating 2024 season, setting ambitious goals to conquer the pinnacle of motorsport. The renowned German automaker is determined to reclaim its dominance in endurance racing, targeting victories at the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans and other premier esports championships.
On the occasion of the “Night of Champions” at the Weissach R&D facility on Saturday evening (2 December), the sports car manufacturer presented its extensive and ambitious programme for the coming year.
“Motorsport is at the core of the Porsche brand. For us, motorsport and innovation are inextricably linked. New developments from motorsport improve our road cars,” explains Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG. “In motorsport, we rely on our pioneering spirit, our courage and our sportiness. The love for Porsche begins on the racetrack. There’s often not a lot between victory and defeat. We experienced this firsthand this year. But we wouldn’t be Porsche if we didn’t learn from setbacks. We’re fierce fighters with great ambition and perseverance. That has always set us apart.”
“In 2024 we’ll concentrate fully on our current portfolio in factory and customer racing,” states Michael Steiner. The Board Member for Research and Development at Porsche AG adds: “With the FIA WEC, the IMSA series and Formula E, we take on three fantastic championships. We’re strongly represented here with Andretti, JDC-Miller, Proton, Jota and our works teams. With more manufacturers coming on board, it’ll be extremely exciting, especially in the World Endurance Championship and at Le Mans. We aim to fight for victories and championships. In the virtual scene, I’m excited to see how the ESL R1 series and our successful Porsche Coanda Esports Racing Team will continue to develop.”
Endurance Racing: A Legacy of Excellence
Porsche’s legacy in endurance racing is unparalleled, boasting an impressive 19 overall victories at Le Mans, the world’s most gruelling motorsports event. In 2024, Porsche aims to add another chapter to its illustrious history, aiming for the top step of the podium at Le Mans and securing the FIA World Endurance Championship title.
The Porsche 963 LMDh hybrid prototype will spearhead the charge, armed with innovative technology and a team of seasoned drivers. This formidable combination is poised to challenge the competition and reclaim Porsche’s endurance racing supremacy.
Formula E: Electrifying Performance
Porsche’s celebrated its most successful Formula E, the all-electric racing series, has been nothing short of electrifying. The TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team has consistently demonstrated its prowess, securing two Drivers’ Championships and one Teams’ Championship. “We’ve evolved into a top team and have established ourselves at the top,” says Florian Modlinger, Director Factory Motorsport in Formula E. “With the Porsche 99X Electric Gen3, we’ve developed a vehicle capable of winning. It was a strong team effort.”
In 2024, Porsche is committed to continuing its winning streak in ABB FIA Formula E. The team will field two Porsche 99X Electric racers, driven by Pascal Wehrlein and António Félix da Costa, a dynamic duo with a proven track record of success.
Esports: A Virtual Supercup Arena
Porsche’s motorsport aspirations extend beyond the physical realm, reaching into the virtual world of esports. Porsche Esports has established itself as a frontrunner in the competitive gaming landscape, with its Porsche Carrera Cup Esports series attracting a global audience.
In 2024, Porsche Esports aims to further elevate its presence in the ESL R1 series based on the Rennsport simulation software as well as the Le Mans Virtual Series esports arena, expanding its portfolio of virtual racing competitions and engaging with a new generation of motorsport enthusiasts.
Customer Racing: A Passion for Competition
Porsche’s commitment to motorsport extends to its customer racing programs, providing aspiring and experienced drivers with the opportunity to compete in a wide range of Porsche models across various championships.
In 2024, Porsche will continue to support its customer racing efforts, providing access to top-tier vehicles, technical expertise, and trackside support. The goal is to foster a thriving customer racing community and inspire future generations of Porsche racers.
